AWF NEWS MARCH - JUNE 2007

Since last newswire so much has happened!

Powerhouse Theo is the new AWF Young Lion’s Champion after defeating Scotty Club at Cardiff, NSW on 23 March with his sit down “Powerbomb”. Theo has been super impressive since joining the AWF, and his win cements him as a force in the promotion. Theo has a list of opponents such as The Captain, Dr Waxhead, Billy Flyswat and Massive Q all waiting in the wings for their shot at the championship. Theo’s “I’ll wrestle and beat anyone” attitude has served him well so far, and AWF wishes him a long and successful reign.

Steve Ravenous is the 2007 Australia’s Cup holder, after defeating Mark Hilton in the tournament final at Blacktown RSL on 14 April. Hilton was unable to thwart off the attack of interfering Platinum Players members JT Robinson & Kid Dynamite, and Ravenous gained the victory and claim to a future AWF Title Shot at his disgression. The next night in Wollongong however was a different story as Hilton and Ravenous faced off in a rematch, and when the Players gang tactics peaked, Hilton had enough and called for back up. Friends Massive Q and TNT entered the ringside area and evened the odds, with the finaly seeing Kid Dynamite hitting Ravenous with the Australia’s Cup by accident and Hilton scoring the pin.

This team rivalry will grow more at “Chaos in Campbelltown” with all combatants colliding in a big 6 way bout at Campbelltown Catholic Club on 19 May.

TNT has had an eventful last few months also. He won the AWF Championship on January 7 over Japan’s Cima, and then went on to defeat USA’s Steve Corino for the AWA World Title on 23 March. Or seemingly so, as the AWA result was reversed due to international paperwork problems. On from there TNT successfully defended his AWF Title against Steve Frost in Fawkner, Victoria on 13 April, however came out of the match with a bad wrist, that made it impossible to defend the title for the remainder of the weekend. TNT’s left wrist is currently in a cast and will be re-assessed on 26 April to see if it is broken. TNT has 90 days to sign for his next title defence, however seems positive that he will compete at Campbelltown on 19 May with or without a cast.

International Assault 2 is coming June 1-3 and what a series of events they should be. AWF and co-promoter World Series Wrestling (WSW) have been working really hard to make these shows something special so be sure to support these events. International competitors for the events include Billy Kidman, Bryan Danielson, Nigel McGuinness & Kid Kash. Tickets are on sale now. Visit the Upcoming Events page or the IA website at www.internationalassault.com for full tour details.

AWF will crown it’s first Tag Team Champions in South Brisbane, at the Greek Club “Brisbane Bash” event on 25 May. These championships have been many years in the making and will finally come to fruition on the upcoming Queensland events taking place 25 May at The Greek Club in South Brisbane, and 27 May at Southport Sharks AFC on 27 May on the Gold Coast. Bracketing for the 4 team tournament will see JT Robinson & Kid Dynamite take on The Captain & Dr Waxhead at King Tom Club on 5 May, and on 19 May Zander Bathory & Chris X will take on Billy Flyswat & Chris X at Campbelltown Catholic Club. The winning teams will head to Queensland, where the Championship will be decided on the Brisbane Bash event at The Greek Club on 25 May.

AWF had a great turn out for it’s return to the Wollongong area on 15 April, with over 300 fans attending. AWF really appreciates the great turn out and the fan participation during the event, and as a result will continue to run regular events in the area. Next Wollongong event is 7 July.

AWF PsychoticSlam will be returning in July, with events Fri 6 July at Panthers in Penrith, NSW, Sat 7 July at Fairy Meadow Fraternity Club in Fairy Meadow, NSW, and Sunday 8 July at Cardiff Panthers, in Cardiff, NSW. An international guest for these events will be announced soon!

Il Cognito defeated Kid Dynamite at Blacktown RSL on 14 April in a number 1 contenders bout as TNT was unable to defend his championship due to injury. Il Cognito will defend his position against Scotty Club in the main event at the “No Laughing Matter” King Tom Club event.
Speaking of The King Tom Club event, this will be a loaded up card on 5 May, with many first time encounters taking place and round 1 of the AWF Tag Team Tournament. Be sure to get tickets for this event, on sale at the bargain prices of $11 for a child and $16 for an adult. Be there!
