AWF NEWSWIRE MAY 2008 EDITION

Get Ready, Things are about to get heavy!

Welcome AWF News Update leading into Australian Winter 2008.

It’s been an awesome Autumn, with many exciting happenings taking place since our last video update.

The AWF Australasian Championship has changed hands twice since last update, with Raven defeating TNT in a grueling battle at Penrith, NSW, Australia on 11 April, and TNT winning the Championship back in Palmerston North, New Zealand on 18 April.

The Raven - TNT rivalry will next spill onto the silver screen, as both men will take part in a horror movie titled “Sleeper” which will begin filming end of May.

As current AWF Champion, TNT has his hands full! As a result of the disqualification in his 3 May Blacktown match versus Mark Hilton, he will consequently defend the AWF Title in a huge four way against Hilton, Ravenous and Il Cognito at the Championship Climax event on Sat 5 July at Blacktown RSL if he can remain champion to this date.

Since last time we also have brand new AWF Tag Team Champions, with Swat Team X – Billy Flyswat and Chris X, upending Surf Club’s 8 month strong title reign. Other major news to come from the bout was “Bodacious Bo” turning her back on Surf Club, playing an integral part in the title change, and joining the Detonation Crew.  She will now go by the name “Bombshell” Bo!

With both the Australasian and Taq Team titles in their grasps, the Detonation Crew has definitely asserted their dominance as the top faction in the company at the present date.

These happenings have no doubt riled the groups of “The Platinum Players” and “The Freakshow” up plenty. Since last video update, The Freakshow have enlisted Zander Bathory and Toxin into their ranks, and many insiders speculate that Jay Law has a working agreement with the Platinum Players.

As a reaction to the gang like environment, Mark Hilton has formed a faction of his own, that will go by the name of “Southern Cross”. The foursome will consist of Hilton, Bluey Bonza, Adam Hoffman & Scotty Club, and will no doubt represent the Australian fighting spirit. Their goal will no doubt be like the other 3 factions, to bring the championships to their group and gain the balance of power in AWF.

In the Young Lion’s division, Champion Jay Law has kept up with his winning ways, defeating New Zealand’s top Young Lion JC Starr, and then defeating the likes of AJ Istra, Max Comic and newcomer Spaceboy Dacey in recent bouts. His main competition at the present is from the aim of “The Aussie Battler” Bluey Bonza, who Law seemingly got himself deliberately counted out against at Blacktown in March. Law then was counted out with Massive Q again in May, due to Bluey distracting the pair with Donuts!  If Bluey continues his winning ways he no doubt will have a date with Jay Law and the Young Lion’s Championship again in the future.

Supanova Sydney will take place 21 & 22 June, followed by Perth on 28 & 29 June, and once again AWF will be there to deliver hard hitting exciting pro-wrestling action 3 times daily.

At the March/April Melbourne and Brisbane Supanova events, big crowds saw Live AWF action and were wowed by the spectacle of up close pro-wrestling action.

AWF newcomers Chris Knight and Carlo Canon made good impressions in Melbourne, as did the massive Kyote in Queensland.

The upcoming Sydney and Perth events will be nothing short of fun and spectacular, so get your tickets now, on sale now from Ticketek and support AWF at Supanova.

Wrestlers from New Zealand’s NZWPW promotion recently competed in joint shows with AWF as part of April’s Pro-Wrestling Explosion tour, and AWF’s Supanova Brisbane events. The likes of D-Hoya, Axl, Nick Silver, Adam Avalanche and Jimmy Sparx were impressive in their bouts, as was the returning AJ Freely. AWF will return to New Zealand for live events in Spring.

AWF will hold it’s mid year Dreamcamp 8 – 11 July, with applications being accepted now. Dreamcamp is a fun camp that teaches wrestling basics and is for ages 12 and up. Ever wanted to step in the ring and see what it’s really like? Then come to Dreamcamp and find out!

Tickets for both the Fri 4 July Fairy Meadow Fraternity Club “Independence Day”, and Sat 5 July Blacktown RSL “Championship Climax”  events are on sale now from the respective clubs, with Ringside tickets $25, and General seating only $15. Please support these exciting live events as we will be busting our butts to put on great shows! Book early to avoid missing out!
